Resources for Helping Students with Diabetes

The National Diabetes Education Program has released a set of tools to help parents support their children as they head back to school. From their press release:
Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. For students with diabetes and their parents, getting ready for a new school year includes a lot more than buying new clothes, backpacks, notebooks, and pens. It means buying a whole list of diabetes supplies to keep at school—but also preparing school staff to help keep their children safe at school and at school-sponsored activities.
To help meet these challenges as youth head back to school, the National Diabetes Education Program* (NDEP) offers Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel. This unique guide provides resources to help parents develop a Diabetes Medical Management Plan, prepare for emergencies, and teach their children how to manage their diabetes during the school day. The guide:
- Provides school personnel, parents, and students with a coordinated team approach for helping students manage their diabetes effectively in the school setting
