Life has been amazing for me. Amazing and busy. David and I have been traveling a lot this summer for various diabetes conferences and a trip to Amsterdam for a birthday celebration as we both turned 30 this year. Additionally, I recently became a yoga teacher and have started teaching at a small studio which I absolutely love! As if that weren’t enough, we finally launched Diabetes Daily University!!!! We are extremely excited to have that project up and going and cannot wait to hear your feedback from it. And on top of all of that, our daughter is starting pre-school this year and is just growing up so fast. We are very blessed to have such wonderful things happening in our lives.
Over the winter, while I was doing my yoga teacher training, I did the Quantum Wellness Cleanse with my fellow trainees. The cleanse is a vegan, gluten-free, alcohol-free, sugar-free and caffeine-free meal plan that lasts for 21 days. As I am the one who cooks in our house, David participated in the cleanse with me. It wasn’t as difficult as you may believe. David lost over 10 pounds doing the cleanse. I gained. Between the cleanse and staying vegan for 6 months following, I gained 12 pounds to my frame.
Who gains weight doing a cleanse? Well, when you are diabetic, and on insulin, and you eat carbohydrates- especially more than you’re used to eating, you’ll gain weight. Simple as that. The yoga I was doing certainly helped add a couple pounds of muscle on, but not 12 pounds of it. It wasn’t until we were on our trip to Amsterdam and I had to wear jeans that I noticed I could barely zip them up. I refuse to buy new clothes to accommodate my weight gain. Not going to happen. It’s time to lose my vegan weight.
